I have found Ann Laura Stoler's book Race and the Education of
Desire very interesting in this regard. For a non-Foucauldian but
extremely interesting alternate history of the construction of racism
I also enjoyed David Roediger's The Wages of Whiteness. Would also
recommend (from a postcolonial view) Pieterse and Perekh's The
Decolonization of the Imagination, Culture Power and Knowledge.
One final thought is the collection of essays, Critical White Studies,
Looking Behind the Mirror edited by Delgado and Stephanic. Hope
this is helpful.
