One final statement of the problem as I see it: Given the postmodernist's
ethical tendencies of a will to truth (Foucault and Nietzsche's term, mind
you) and a will to difference or individuality combined with an intellectual
persuasion towards anti-essentialism... there are really only three
choices, quietism, manipulating the opponent and the masses to join you with
noble lies which pretend there are essences, or persuade the opponent and
honest persuasion of the opponent and the masses to construct an ethos in
line with certain beloved values they may or may not yet share. The other
options result in rejecting the ethos of difference and becoming fascists
making all like you by force.
