Apart from Donzelot, read the last part of Madness and Civilization (what a title!) in which the 18th century family model in analysed that was used in thr treatment of madmen.
Also read the lecture (4 and 5) on paternal power and care in Foucault's Course of 1978, it is also translated in English as Governmentality;
Also of interest is Le Désordre des familles. Lettres de cachet des archives de la Bastille au XVIIIe siècle with Arlette Farge (Paris: Collection Archives, 1982

good luck, yours

Subject: [Foucault-L] Introductions

My name is Tony Baxter and I live in cornwall, England.

I am currently undertaking a Bsc degree with the Open University and currently doing a social policy course.

I am particularly interested in foucoult's theories on power, and how this relates to the understanding of family life.

any pointers welcomed!
