Power and Neutrality

While ?psycho-analysis,? historically, suggests a depth/surface
schematic, or hermeneutic bias, I too doubt that all ?ears for hire? are
consigned to reproduce this formation in perpetuity. Question: Since
Foucault erases the lines between intrapersonal and interpersonal modes
of power, etc., what spaces for reinvention are opened up when a
?pyschoanalyst? takes such arguments seriously?

Aside:
Acknowledging that one of the conditions of possibility for his work is
the psychoanalytic tradition, Foucault seems quite self-conscious about
the prospect that by erasing the lines between, let?s say, Freud and the
confessional, his own efforts are no more safe from genealogical
quick-sand. While any resemblance between History of Sexuality and the
kind of ?psychopathology of everyday life? that Freud proposes in
Civilization and its Discontents, etc., is incidental, discourse does
have a way of being incidental.

Another Question: What material for self-reinvention in the helping
professions, might be gleaned by studying the techniques of
discription/catachresis Foucault employs?
