I am not sure of the exact source for this, but having read a good bit of
Aries, i would suggest looking in Centuries of Childhood; a social history
of family life.

Personally, I find this book to be a wonderful source, however Aries' work
frequently meets with the criticism that it is the purveyor of flawed
historical presentationism.
If for nothing else, it makes a useful springboard from which one can
leap...
