I studied philosophy both at the undergraduate and graduate level at Baylor
University in Waco, TX. I thought it was a pretty good experience and that
I received a well rounded education in philosophy that emphasized both the
history of philosophy and contemporary philosophy. The strong suits of the
department include ancient philosophy, ethical theory and political
philosophy, and the philosophy of religion. I think a special strength of
the department is that it is a place where the faculty approach philosophy
from Analytic, Continental, and Pragmatist perspectives. For what its worth
I recommend it, but there are a number of other good departments as well.
You might look at Notre Dame, Stony Brook, Univ. of Texas just to name a
few. There is a list of websites for American universities -
[http://www.clas.ufl.edu/CLAS/american-universities.html - that might be a
good way to begin checking out some programs.
