I will briefly respond to this point and I am hesitant to do so because I am
not sure if the requester for this viewpoint is baiting me or not. Marxism
has become a critical theoretical orientation and is no longer considered a
practical economic standpoint in the US or Europe. However, in other
countries Marxism may be the theory of choice if revolutionary action is
considered necessary. Due to the power of state capitalism in the West today,
Marxism as a revolutionary standpoint against capitalism is not viable at all.
Marxism as a theoretical viewpoint will help the young to understand what is
going on in terms of class stratification in the US and the West, but no one
should encourage resorting to a revolutionary Marxist or even a socialist
economic standpoint as they will not experience
success. However, theoretical Marxism is required reading in order to
understand how
the economic system of the West operates, what some its problems are and why
certain alternative economic systems and action orientations would not be
successful. Without a doubt, the dominant action oriented philosophies of
today in the West which underlaid the demise of Russia and the conversion of
all socialist economic systems in the 1st and 2nd worlds were from post-
Marxist philosophers who understand the methods of Marxist resistance to
capitalism both theoretically and in actual historical practice, why they have
failed, and what remedies are necessary, from a systemic perspective.
