Re: Question

Hello,
I found this on a web site as an introduction to Foucault and
I guess it bothered me because the related readings are looked
at thru a lense of his thought being somehow flawed based on
his "lifestyle". Does anyone have any information on what F
actually said in his argument about the wearing of the veil
is an impressive political statement?
Laura

Foucault had a brilliant academic career teaching both psychology
and philosophy. He lived a very controversial life. For example, he
scandalized his university by appointing his male lover to a position
in the department, and he both embraced and then broke with Marxism.
After the nineteen-seventies his intellectual work also became radicalized
in a surprising way. He argued, for example, that in Iran, the
wearing of the veil is an impressive political statement.
Foucault's death was due to an AID's related illness.
