Re: R: KP

Concerning Foucault and Marxism-
True, Foucault was influenced by Marxist critiques of
capitalist society, i.e. the superstructure-base dichotomy,
sociological-economic critiques, etc. However, there is a distinction to be
made between the brutal excesses of Maoist bureaucrats and the detached
analysis of an intellectual, who was simply
utilizing the Marxist critique of hegemonic dynamics. Foucault seemed to
have a deep distrust of any entrenched power, so it doesn't seem fair to
associate him with abuses of power. The same analysis applies to Sartre,
concerning his relation to the Soviet Union.
