Re: foucault-digest V2 #529

This is an elegy: In memoriam

I've been a member of this list for years--I haven't had time to read
most posts lately, due to other commitments, but I just want to say,
after being away for a few months I had hoped things might have
improved.... instead, another bunch of posturing messages, juvenile
insults and a level of discourse so low I can't even get my eyes to take
it in... instead of some real debate.

I despair... there used to be some stimulating and worthwhile
conversations here, about Foucault, the meaning of life and so on, and
while there were academic disagreements as contrasting viewpoints
offered, it was done respectfully, if hotly, and it was a treat to read
the digest ... I was away doing research and felt it kept me in touch
with scholarship and the community of thinkers I missed.... I used to
look forward to seeing the digest in my inbox, as I paid pounds and
pounds and kroners by the bag to retrieve my mail at internet cafes... I
enjoyed it, it was good. Now?

Now--well, if I sound old and tired and defeated, I am...

I surrender, I will de-list...
