Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow (PDF) in
the School of Humanities (Philosophy) and Department of Psychology, from as
soon as possible, preferably by September 1st 2011, for two years.
This project, named “Psychological Well-Being East and West: Philosophical
Foundations”, is part of the wider “Happiness East and West” project that
has been running in the department of Philosophy for a number of years. The
current initiative aims to investigate two related questions. First, what
are the philosophical foundations of a range of psychological accounts of
subjective well-being (for example, psychoanalytic or positive psychology
accounts)? Second, how well suited are any of these paradigms for
understanding – or treating – individuals in the Chinese cultural context?
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in philosophy or psychology, or a
closely related field. Capability of cross-disciplinary and cross-cultural
research is an advantage. Theappointee will help the project leaders to
organise an international workshop on those questions, while pursuing his or
her own research on any closely related topic.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience
will be offered. Annual leave and medical/dental benefits will be provided.
