I agree with Judy Motion. The original question (from Arne Klawitter) concerned the distinction made by Foucault between subject and self. This question addresses a theoretical point about Foucault's use of discourse in which he maintained a de-centred view of the subject. And so with the distinction between self and subject in mind I read:
"Not necessarily, in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, the self would be an object," as:
"In the discourse of psychoanalytic psychotherapy the subject is a self which is an object."
