Hello,
I am starting my PhD in October in the English Department and I will be
working on contemporary American literature looking at diverse
constructions of the physical body. I did an essay in my Critical Theory
Course on Foucault and the body [mainly referring to "The Body of the
Condemned"] arguing that the postmodern body is engaged in networks of
disciplines and powers, which either put it into focus or frame it in a
productive discourse of body-images. Eventhough Foucault is following the
Platonic cave-project in terms of body and soul, still the Foucauldean
body is placed in the postmodern discourse of body rhetorics.
What do you all think about this? Do you know anything else about it, in
terms of Foucault or any other relevant texts?
