Re: government at a distance

hi -
rose and miller (1992) and rose (1990; 1996) used latour's (1986) notion
of "acting at a distance" to explain different strategies of liberal modes
of governance.

is this what you are referring to?

Rose, Nikolas. (1990). Governing the Soul: The Shaping of the
Private Self. London: Routledge.
Rose, Nikolas. (1996). Inventing Ourselves: Psychology, Power and
Personhood. Cambridge: University Press.
Rose, Nikolas & Peter Miller. (1992). Political Power Beyond the
State: Problematics of Government. British Journal of Sociology, 43:2,
June, 173-205.
Latour, Bruno. (1986). Visual Cognition: Thinking with Hands and
Eyes. In H. Kulick (Ed.) Knowledge and Society Volume 6. Houston: Rice
University Press.
