Call for Papers

GRADUATE CONFERENCE IN POLITICAL THEORY

On Saturday, May 6, 2000 from 10.00am to 6.30pm, the Department of Politics
and International Studies at the University of Warwick will host its second
annual conference for postgraduate students working in political theory or
political philosophy. The sessions will be chaired by Dr. Stuart Elden,
Prof. Susan Hurley, Prof. Andrew Reeve, Prof. Robert van der Veen, Dr.
Christopher Woodard, and Dr. Maja Zehfuss.

As well as postgraduate papers, there will be two Plenary Sessions. Prof.
Susan Hurley (PAIS, Warwick) will discuss ?Why the Aim to Neutralize Luck
Cannot Provide a Basis for Egalitarianism?. Prof. Larry Temkin (Philosophy,
Rutgers University, and All Souls College, Oxford), author of Inequality
(Oxford University Press, 1993), as well as many articles on distributive
ethics and moral theory, will speak on ?Equality, Priority, and the
Levelling Down Objection?. Andrew Williams (Philosophy/PAIS, Warwick) will
act as commentator.

Postgraduates interested in giving papers should send abstracts (400-500
words) by no later than March 3, 2000. Papers may deal with any area within
contemporary political theory, political philosophy, or the history of
political thought, but should take no more than twenty minutes to present.
Those interested in attending the Conference should reserve a place no later
than April 28, 2000. Attendance is free of charge. All correspondence, or
