In the Sheridan Smith translation, it is "unit" (p. 106 of the Pantheon
paperback).

Subject: Foucault translation query
Dear Foucault experts,
I'm involved in preparing for publication a Russian translation of
Foucault's _Archeology of Knowledge_. As the right choice of words is always
a translator's biggest nightmare, I was wondering whether someone could give
me the fixed English equivalents of some words. My present query is about
'unite de type linguistic' (the chapter "La description des enonces"). Is it
translated into English as 'unity' or as 'unit'?
Thanks a lot.
