Our friend David may well be right on the money.
The fifth paragraph of Foucault's essay "Le sujet et le pouvoir" (first published as "The Subject and Power" in Dreyfus & Rabinow's Michel Foucault: Beyond Structuralism and Hermeneutics) begins this way :
"Enfin, j'ai cherché à étudier - c'est mon travail en cours - la manière dont un être humain se transforme en sujet;"
It's on page 1042 of my copy of the second volume of the Quarto edition of "Dits et écrits". (The article bears the number 306 in any edition.)
Now it may well be that page 1042 in the second volume of this edition is page 223 of the fouth volume of the Bibliotheque des idées edition.
Anyway, it's the closest quote I've been able to come with too.
