Re: [Foucault-L] Foucault and education

Brilliant! I saw the list of SIGs and noticed this was a glaring omission. Someone of your calibre and reputation would be ideal in putting a SIG like this on the map. I've also seen your later email and agree that if you want to put Governmentality in the title, it would be even more exciting. I notice in the AARE News (No 64, Oct 2008) that a recent doctoral thesis used the govt'y framework as have papers from the past few conferences.

Talk to you back at the office.

Subject: [Foucault-L] Foucault and education

I am currently putting together a proposal for the formation of a new
Special Interest Group (SIG) on Foucault and poststructuralist theory
under the auspices of the Australian Association for Research in
Education (AARE) which runs a major conference every year and
produces a journal - The Australian Educational Researcher.

I am aware that there is already a Foucault and Education SIG in the
American Educational Research Association (AERA) but given that there
is no formal institutional support for this kind of work within the
Australian educational context, I thought the formation of a Foucault
(etc) SIG based in Australia would be timely given these
circumstances.

If anybody would like to know more or is interested in joining this
group please email me for further details. Membership is not limited
to educational researchers living in Australia by the way!
Educational researchers from everywhere and from every discipline are
more than welcome.
