Welcome Dennis
I, too, am a Foucault infant (I can only lay claim to one semester-length
course doing a fly-by introduction to Foucault, Derrida and Lyotard), but
I can recommend coming to Foucault via _Discipline and Punish_.

My lecturer, Dipesh Chakrabarty, (who was absolutely excellent), actually
took us through a certain line of theorists to Foucault which included
an overview of certain areas of the thought of Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche and
then Foucault (I can give you an exact reading list of the particular
essays that were set from these theorists or their critics if you are
interested).

No doubt you will get some good responses to your query in this
newsgroup. I have found everyone to be very helpful and very
knowledgeable (I am not the 'norm' as far as expertise goes... most
people here have doctorates in the stuff!!! - I am an 3rd year undergrad.)

Best of luck and welcome again
Pauline
