I am somewhat reluctant to begin my first post with what I know must be a
commonplace on this list. However, I also know that "terms" in any
discourse are continually in flux by necessity and are therefore always
subject to re-examination. I want to start by talking about "discourse"
as a term in Foucault's language. I would also like to discuss
distinctions between Foucault's thought and the critical movement of New
Historicism.
Can we agree that Foucault's critical language hinges upon the term
discourse?
