I agree that a manifesto would be a mistaken approach. I also think that it
would rigidify things so much as to leave the movement utterly vulnerable to
being reduced to stupid rally cries. But I would not say "woopy-doo" to the
notion of pressing, not politically but individually, for an ethic of
respect for difference both in arguments and in relationships between
persons and nations, etc. This newly evolved version of the Western liberal
ethic is more important than any momentary political or intellectual agenda
because, if effective in taking root in more and more people's hearts, it
will be the deciding factor of what makes up the heart of political and
intellectual agendas in the future. Will they be fascist or will they be
friendly depends on the heart open to differences more than on any specific
goals.

I think postmodernism is utterly incapable of producing any kind of
manifesto save a call for a respect for difference and a retreat into a
liberal navel gazing concerned with changing our ethics. Woopy - doo. Long
live the revolution.
