- Sending message as “plain text” is better, more universal, than
“html”. When replying to a previous message, please avoid including in
your post the full message you are replying to, and try to restrict the
quoting to just the relevant parts. Chose or rewrite a subject line that
fits the content of your message.
- Please note that your message is sent to 700 mailboxes, that means a modicum of work should be put into crafting your messages and double-thinking before posting. Also, Foucault-L is a mailing-list, not a forum: it is not exactly a space for discussions meant as conversation - real discussions surely happen off-list. I had to put an end to the recent thread about films because it was getting chitchat.
- This does not mean that one should refrain from posting or be intimidated. I personally enjoy when people report their use of Foucault in real life (the recent post about the panoptical calling-center). Many, many members in this list are silent and new subscribers hardly ever present themselves as suggested: listening anonymously is one of the privileges of mailing-lists, the virtual room is never overcrowded or suffocating, but more diversity in the contributions would certainly increase the magnitude of the Foucault-L.
- Summertime idea: would anyone send a post untitled “practice of the self”, and describe one of his current practice, would it be writing a journal, developing a professional skill or any other part of one’s life understood and described as a technique of self ? This could be a way for the silent ones to present themselves without getting too “personal”.
- The Foucault-L is not moderated but spam and messages not coherent with the above rules are filtered out manually, thus a certain delay between the sending of the message and the reception by the list. To smooth the process, we need volunteers to read and filter the messages, please apply to: admin-foucault@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
